Family doctors or urologists recommend that older men frequently have a PSA test done. However, those affected are afraid of the result because an increased blood level often triggers the fear of having prostate cancer. PSA means “prostate specific antigen” and is a protein enzyme produced in the prostate. However, the controversial test only states that there is any change in the prostate.
The laboratory cannot find out whether this change is positive, negative or even normal. That’s probably why you’re wondering how you can lower the PSA level so that it can’t even lead to cancer anxiety? There are a number of scientific studies that suggest an increase in PSA levels in certain situations. Conversely, this means that you should refrain from doing some things before a blood test to determine the PSA level.
not cycling to naturally lower the PSA level
You should not ride a bicycle immediately before the examination. This also applies to the exercise bike. The prostate is pressed in during this sport and thus produces more protein. This is a normal reaction but can lead to a wrong conclusion when the test is evaluated. The increased production even lasts a few days after the sport.
To refrain from sex so that the PSA value is lowered
Since the protein is produced in the prostate to make the sperm more slippery, it is logical that the PSA level is increased during frequent sexual intercourse. So if you have an appointment for an examination with your urologist, you should refrain from having sex 2 to 3 days before the examination. A good doctor will also ask you during the examination.
Do not take blood samples after a rectal examination under any circumstances
Sometimes the doctor decides only after a rectal examination that a PSA test should be consulted for diagnosis. If he has seen an enlargement of the prostate, he will have crushed the organ. Then the effect will be the same as if you were riding a bike or riding a horse. The prostate will produce more protein and falsify the result.
The same effect occurs when working with ultrasound. Production can be increased for weeks. Especially if you change your doctor, you should think about which examinations can falsify the PSA value. At least you should inform your doctor about all treatment methods in the last weeks.
PSA-value decrease with pomegranate
In affected prostate cancer patients, several studies were conducted with the administration of pomegranate juice. With the administration of only one glass per day, the PSA value did not increase any more but remained at least constant.
But in many cases, it has also sunk. Remember, however, that this research was on already identified prostate cancer and not just an elevated PSA level was present. The phenol contained in the pomegranate is primarily effective against cancer cells. If these are reduced, it is logical that the examined PSA value becomes also decreasing. Basically, however, you take a lot of vitamin C with the pomegranate juice, so that your immune system is strengthened in any case.
Decrease the PSA level through diet and prevent prostate cancer
If you look at the number of sick people in the world, it is noticeable that Asians are much less likely to develop prostate cancer. However, if they settle in Europe, Asian men get prostate cancer just as frequently as Central German men.
Thus it is obvious that the Asian diet has a lot to do with the non-development of cancers. A first step could be to replace your morning coffee with a cup of green tea. It contains many antioxidants that are known to work against many types of cancer cells. Remember that green tea should not be brewed with boiling water, but only with water at a temperature of about 80 degrees.
A lot of turmerics is used in Asian cuisine. This anti-inflammatory spice prevents the spread of prostate cells and at the same time contributes to lowering the PSA level. Turmeric can be used excellently in the preparation of the domestic kitchen, as it is rather tasteless.
Many prostate cancer sufferers swear by broccoli and therefore eat the seeds of the plant. The vegetables contain a large proportion of sulfur, which is effective against degenerate cells.
However, there are now also many mixed preparations in the field of food supplements or homeopathy that use these ingredients.
Must a PSA test be at all?
The fear of cancer is present in many people’s minds. A tumor is usually asymptomatic and causes – at least in the early stages – hardly any symptoms. If symptoms occur in the case of cancer, it has usually already spread and the treatments become more difficult.
However, if you have symptoms such as frequent urination, burning sensation when urinating, blood in your urine or ejaculation, you should get to the bottom of the cause. It doesn’t have to be prostate cancer, your prostate can “only” be enlarged or inflamed. So before a PSA test is done, your doctor should first determine what disease you have. He will determine this by rectal palpation. He will be able to determine the size and girth of the organ. If he is unsure, an MRI examination can also provide further information.
Remember also that an enlargement of the prostate in advanced age can be described as quite normal. If the prostate is inflamed, antibiotics will quickly relieve your symptoms. In both cases, the PSA level is also elevated, although it is not cancer.
It makes no sense to artificially lower the PSA level
